Profile
Growing up in places as culturally diverse as Mexico, Seattle, South
Korea, and Modesto, the four finalists came to Pasadena in the fall of
2004 to attend school. Throughout their years at the Art Center, they
have collaborated and helped one another on various projects. The
diversity of their backgrounds has contributed to their vastly different
skills in communication and design. In an environment where structure
and discipline are strictly enforced they try their best to have as much
fun as possible.
Communication objective
YAY! GPK! is a yearbook for the Spring 2007 graphic design graduates of Art Center in Pasadena. We decided to design it as a Coloring/Activity book in which every graduate had his or her own page and illustrated portrait. We littered "geeky" design activities and inside jokes throughout, while we displayed selected instructors as paper dolls with appropriate accessories. The idea behind this format was to give the graduates a release from the stress that accompanies their final days by bringing them back to the birth of their creative thinking. We equipped printed books with "crit crayons” and distributed electronic versions in PDF format.
Tools used
We used Adobe® Illustrator® throughout for student portraits, paper dolls, and activities. We used Adobe Photoshop® to export vector paths from high-contrasted faces and accessories. We used Adobe InDesign® to compile everything in layouts and to convert them to sizable PDF files. |
