Profile
Gertrude Wong was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Toronto, Canada. After high school, she fueled her interest in the arts through a fine art post-secondary institution. From painting on canvas to shooting photos, Gertrude still felt she had not found the ultimate interest that would last her a lifetime. Thanks to encouragement by her mother, she decided to pursue studies elsewhere. In 2004, she was accepted into the Graphic Design program at George Brown College. From then on, she discovered her greatest interest of all time. Gertrude recently graduated and was honored with two awards of excellence.
Communication objective
The concept of this project is to develop a multisensory play set for dyslexic children that integrates both learning and playing into one. This play set includes a range of candy powders, sweet for consonants and sour for vowels, a wooden tray where the powders can be poured, and a set of alphabet booklets. The project puts a twist on Montessori learning methodology. The overall package is designed like a mini briefcase, giving children a sense of professionalism and the pleasure of being a "big kid". All elements are designed to create links between images and alphabets, making it easy for children to learn.
Tools used
All illustration concepts were first sketched out on paper and later transferred into Adobe® Illustrator® CS2. The booklets were designed with Adobe InDesign® CS2 and then packaged and distilled by Adobe Acrobat® 8 for print production. |
