Profile
Graphic designer Cristian Zuzunaga was born in Barcelona. At the age of 19 he moved to New York where he lived for two years. In 2001 he moved to London where he studied Typographic design at the London College of Communication. In 2005 he was accepted at the Royal College of Art where he met Peter Smith, a menswear fashion designer. Together they designed modern and functional street-wear clothing for men under the name of QUADRAT. Inspired by the digital, the pixel and by modern cities such as Shanghai or London, Cristian’s graphic prints on voluminous shapes are a camouflage for our modern day cityscape.
Communication objective
Graphic designer Cristian Zuzunaga works in conjunction with Fashion menswear designer Peter Smith to design modern and functional street wear for men. Inspired by digital technology, the pixel, super-modern architecture, and global cities such as Shanghai, London, or Tokyo, Cristian's graphic prints on voluminous shapes are a camouflage for our modern day cities. We would say that our collection is street wear, but our intent was to create garments that encourage diversity and plurality. They are playful and spontaneous and, most importantly, allow people to impact and interact with each other and their surroundings through the aesthetics and function of their clothing.
Tools used
I used Adobe® Photoshop® to clean and treat photographic images of architectural shapes. Then I took pictures of blown-up areas of the images and selected the strongest ones. I transferred the images back into Photoshop®, treating them with filters and color adjustments. Then I resized the patterns so they could be printed repeatedly. We tested for saturation using Hue/Saturation tools in Lab format. Then I scanned the original drawings of the eight intended outfits and placed the patterns on the garments. Once the eight final outfits (image) were selected, I used Adobe Illustrator® to group them together. |
