The Book Reads You

Communication objective
Books are always passive objects that humans handle. This project asks: What does "read” mean? Does it mean understanding? If so, is there a perfect understanding of the content when reading a book? What each individual reads is based on his/her experience, knowledge, and perception. Therefore, reading a book means reading yourself. "The Book Reads You” explores the notion of reading as a relationship between the book and the reader. It is not the book that you read, but yourself by reading the book.

Tools used
"The Book Reads You” is an interactive installation physically constructed with a projector reflecting the digital book on the surface of a desk. Readers can read the book by flipping the pages. They can read the book by actually reading the various images that appear as the content of the book. A webcam processes live images of the audience to Flash® 8. This technology enables participants to create unique interactions between book and reader.
